NFP (Non-Farm Payrolls)
The NFP (Non-Farm Payrolls, nonfarm job creation) refers, by extension, to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly jobs report, the Employment Situation. Often published on the first Friday of the month, at 2:30 p.m. Paris time, it delivers three numbers read within the same minute: jobs created, from a survey of businesses; the unemployment rate, from a survey of households; and average hourly earnings. The revisions to the previous two months matter as much as the month’s number. It is one of the most closely followed releases on the economic calendar, because it informs the employment side of the Fed’s mandate. Reading and pitfalls: the guide to economic releases.
