OKX Review 2026: Full Test, Fees and How-To Guide

30 min📅 August 4, 2026
📋Contents52 sections

Since July 1, 2026, half of the crypto platforms have vanished from screens across Europe. OKX, for its part, is still standing — better equipped than ever. I've been trading on it since this summer, everything from crypto to stocks, and here's my complete take.

My rating: 9/10.

In this review, I'll tell you everything: what I actually do on OKX, what impressed me, what I liked less, and especially how to cut your fees threefold. And because a platform this complete can't be mastered in five minutes, I've added a full how-to guide right after: signing up, KYC, deposits, activating derivatives, the card, and tax reporting.

Today, it's the only platform that has managed to comply with European rules, MiCA and MiFID II, without sacrificing ease of use. The others had to cut their offering down to size to fall in line. OKX stacked up licenses instead, to keep everything.

This review is based on my actual usage: a verified account, real deposits, and trades on X-Perps since this summer.

Transparency: the OKX links on this page are affiliate links. If you open an account through them, Captain Trading may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you — and you also unlock the perks negotiated for the community. That changes nothing about what I write here: the day this platform disappoints, I'll say so.

Yes, and it's actually one of the best-covered platforms on the market.

Since July 1, 2026, the MiCA transition period is over. Any platform serving European users without a license is now operating illegally. That's why most exchanges on the market are now unavailable to European IP addresses.

OKX, for its part, saw it coming. Three licenses, all passported across the European Union:

  • The MiCA license, granted on January 27, 2025 by the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA).
  • The MiFID II license, in March 2025. This is the one that authorizes derivative products. MiCA only covers spot trading and custody: without MiFID II, a regulated platform legally cannot offer you futures. That's why most European competitors are limited to spot buying.
  • The payment institution license, in February 2026, which authorizes the OKX card and stablecoin payments.

In other words: this platform gives you the opportunity to trade futures and a host of other products 100% legally from Europe.

X-Perps: The Service No One Else Offers in Europe

This is where the platform pulls ahead of the pack, and it's obviously where I spend most of my time since opening my account.

X-Perps are long-dated futures contracts that behave exactly like classic perpetual contracts, with a funding rate that keeps the price in line with spot. The difference is the framework: everything is regulated under MiFID II, with negative balance protection.

I mainly trade futures through X-Perps, and execution is clean. Orders fill fast, with no noticeable latency, even when the market is moving.

Special mention for the built-in trailing stop. It's the kind of feature you often have to look elsewhere for, or hack together with bits of code; here, it's built right into the interface. It saves me from manually trailing my stop loss and locks in my profit-taking, even if Trump decides to announce some unplanned madness that throws my plans off.

The platform isn't just about crypto. Alongside BTC and altcoins, you'll find major US stocks and the entire semiconductor sector — Apple, Amazon, Micron, Marvell, SanDisk, SK hynix, and even SpaceX —, ETFs like the Nasdaq 100 (QQQ) or the Semiconductor Bull 3x, and commodities: gold, silver, WTI and Brent crude oil.

OKX X-Perps catalog: Apple, Amazon, Micron and SpaceX stocks, crypto, and commodities gold, silver and oil
The app's X-Perp tab, filtered by category: stocks, crypto, commodities.

In practice, for me, that means two positions open in parallel on the same account: one on SOL, and one on MU, Micron stock. Same margin, same interface, a crypto asset and a stock side by side.

Two open X-Perp positions on OKX: Micron (MU) and Solana (SOL) at x10 leverage on a unified account
Micron and Solana in X-Perp, x10 leverage, on the same unified account — with the trailing stop managed directly in the interface.

All of it, 24/7. You can react to an FOMC meeting on a Wednesday evening, play a Nvidia earnings report after the close, or short gold on a Sunday.

Two things to know before diving in: access requires passing a suitability test, a questionnaire on your understanding of leverage and liquidations. It's a regulatory requirement, quick and easy if you have some trading experience (the step-by-step process is detailed further down).

And leverage is capped at x10, which is more than enough when you have a solid risk management system. If you want to level up on this topic for free, check out my dedicated guide: risk management.

OKX Fees: The Trick No One Explains

This is the most misunderstood point about the platform, and it can save you hundreds of euros a year.

In Europe, OKX applies two different spot fee schedules, depending on whether or not you've opened an X-Perps derivatives account.

  • Without an X-Perps account, at the base tier: 0.20% maker / 0.35% taker.
  • With an X-Perps account open: 0.08% maker / 0.10% taker.

Your taker fees, cut by three and a half times. No volume requirement, no minimum deposit. Just by opening the derivatives account, which takes five minutes and a questionnaire.

Even if you only plan on trading spot, open it. Not doing so means leaving money on the table with every order. The full fee schedules, tier by tier, are detailed further down — with one detail that's nice to look at: from VIP 6 onward, maker fees drop to zero, and from VIP 7 onward they turn negative. OKX pays you to provide liquidity.

On futures, it's 0.02% maker and 0.05% taker at the standard tier, with negative rebates for high volumes.

For everything else, it's fairly simple: free SEPA transfers both in and out, 1.99% for card payments and PayPal, and the Convert feature with no trading fees or slippage.

Opening an OKX Account from Europe

Sign-up happens on the website or the mobile app. From Europe, your account is automatically attached to the regulated European entity.

What You Get Through My Link

OKX and Captain Trading teamed up on a joint sign-up page. It gets you two things: up to €400 in bonuses paid in bitcoin, and 8% yield on your deposits.

The €400 doesn't land all at once: it unlocks in stages, as you get to grips with the platform. Here's the full breakdown of missions and what they pay out:

MissionReward (paid in BTC)
Make a deposit of 10 €10 €
Open your X-Perps accountPass VIP Level 1 (30 days)
Activate the OKX card and make 3 eligible transactions10 €
Trade 200 € (excluding stablecoins)5 €
Deposit 100 € and trade 500 € (excluding stablecoins)10 €
Deposit 200 € and trade 1,000 € (excluding stablecoins)15 €
Deposit 1,000 € and trade 5,000 € (excluding stablecoins)50 €
Deposit 2,000 € and trade 10,000 € (excluding stablecoins)100 €
Deposit 4,000 € and trade 20,000 € (excluding stablecoins)200 €

Two things worth noting. First, the second row is the most profitable of all: opening the X-Perps account costs nothing, unlocks the VIP 1 pass for 30 days, and drops your spot fees from 0.35% to 0.10% as explained above. Second, the lower tiers require serious deposits: never deposit more than you were already planning to commit — a bonus doesn't justify over-risking.

👉 Create my OKX account and grab the €400

The exact terms of the offer and the current period are detailed on the OKX page at the time you sign up — check them before you start, they change from campaign to campaign.

Next, KYC: ID document, dynamic selfie, and sometimes proof of address. Verification takes a few minutes. It's mandatory before you can deposit — a MiCA requirement.

Secure your account right away. 2FA through an authenticator app, not just SMS — and even a passkey if your phone supports it.

To fund your account, you can use free SEPA transfer, card payment or PayPal at 1.99%, or a crypto deposit from an external wallet.

And that's where I got my first pleasant surprise. As soon as I clicked "send" from my crypto wallet to my OKX address, I got an instant notification telling me the transfer was underway, with real-time status. Whenever you send funds somewhere, those few minutes of waiting with no feedback are always uncomfortable. Here, you know right away that it's on its way and where it stands. It's a small detail, but it's reassuring.

What I Didn't Like

I'll be honest: I'm still looking.

The only real criticism you can level at the platform is the leverage cap at x10. If you're coming from an offshore platform where you're used to x50 or x100, you'll need to readjust.

Except that's not really a flaw of OKX's. It's the price of entry into European regulation. No legal platform in Europe offers more. And honestly, for the vast majority of serious strategies, x10 is more than enough. The ones crying over x100 are rarely the ones winning in the long run.

Other than that, the mobile app is ultra smooth, the interface is pleasant and intuitive, and since this summer I haven't run into a single bug or any latency. I was even pleasantly surprised by the execution speed.

OKX, Kraken, or Bybit: Which One Should You Choose?

Kraken is the only real competitor on the regulated side. But between spot fees that are almost twice as high, lower liquidity on many pairs, no card, and no Web3 wallet, the gap widens fast as soon as you look beyond simple trading.

Bybit EU remains a solid spot platform, with low fees and a broad catalog. But without a MiFID II license, there are no leveraged derivatives for Europeans. If you want to trade futures, this isn't where it happens.

OKX is the most complete of the three, by far. Regulated derivatives, traditional markets, the lowest fees of the three, a payment card, a non-custodial wallet. Where the others excel on one or two points, OKX leaves almost no gaps.

My Verdict

9/10.

It's the MiCA- and MiFID II-compliant platform with the best user experience. It's exactly what I was looking for, and that's rare. The one thing missing is the leverage cap — a regulatory constraint more than a flaw of the platform, but it exists and I'd rather say so.

It's all there: regulated derivatives that almost no one else offers, stocks and commodities on the same account, fast execution, a built-in trailing stop, a smooth mobile app, and the lowest fees in the category. The one trade-off, the x10 cap, isn't really one once you understand where it comes from.

I'm currently digging into AI agents directly inside OKX, the platform's latest addition, which is going to make developers happy. Stay tuned, I'll be posting about it soon. All the updates on this topic will go through the AI & trading section.

The Complete How-To Guide for OKX Europe

The review above tells you whether the platform is worth it. This second part tells you how to use it, from A to Z: what OKX Europe actually offers, how to use it from Europe (signing up, deposits, your first trade, the card, tax reporting), exactly what it costs, and where the limits are. The goal is simple: by the end, you'll know how to use it without making mistakes.

OKX Europe: What Exactly Are We Talking About

Where the Platform Comes From

OKX is one of the largest crypto platforms in the world. Founded in 2017 under the name OKEx (itself spun out of OKCoin, created in 2013), it was rebranded OKX in 2022 and now claims more than 120 million users across more than 160 countries. It regularly ranks in the global top 3 exchanges by volume and Trust Score.

Its reputation was built on three pillars: massive liquidity, an execution engine among the fastest on the market, and a complete ecosystem that goes well beyond a simple exchange (non-custodial Web3 wallet, DEX aggregator, Earn products, trading bots).

Two Entities, One Single App

Unlike other platforms that had to launch a separate site, OKX Europe operates through dedicated legal entities, while keeping the same interface and the same app as the global version:

  • OKX Europe Limited: the MiCA-licensed entity, which handles spot trading, asset custody, deposits/withdrawals, and standard crypto services.
  • OKX Europe Markets Limited: the MiFID II-licensed entity, which handles derivative products — the X-Perps.
  • The payment institution license, which covers OKX Pay and the OKX card for stablecoin payments.

In practice, when you sign up from Europe, your account is automatically attached to the European entities. You don't have to choose between two sites: you use the regular OKX app, but within the European framework, with its protections and its rules.

What MiCA Actually Gives You

Beyond legality (which I covered above), the regulation imposes real protections:

  • strict segregation of user funds (Article 70: your assets sit in accounts separate from OKX's own funds, and are protected from creditors in the event of insolvency);
  • enhanced transparency on risks, fees, and asset custody;
  • governance obligations and ongoing supervision;
  • a formal complaints process, with the regulator as the escalation point;
  • legal liability for OKX in the event of asset loss caused by its own failures.

The MiCA license obtained from the MFSA covers 9 of the 10 services provided for under the regulation (custody, execution, exchange, transfers, settlement…) and it's passported across all 30 EEA member states.

Everything OKX Europe Offers

Spot Trading (and Margin)

Spot is the foundation of the platform, and it's solid: a deep order book, advanced charts, and fast execution even during volatile periods. In the Trade menu, the section is actually called "Spot & Margin": margin trading is available as a complement.

On the catalog side, European users have access to around 405 spot tokens (10 in Group 1 for the major pairs, 139 in Group 2, and 256 in Group 3), with a solid number of direct euro pairs (BTC/EUR, ETH/EUR, SOL/EUR, XRP/EUR, OKB/EUR, USDC/EUR…). The catalog is narrower than on the global version, since every token has to pass MiCA criteria, but it's more than enough to build a diversified portfolio.

Good to know: pairs are split into fee groups (Groups 1, 2, 3, and Stablecoins), each with its own schedule. The major pairs in Group 1 get the lowest fees.

All the classic order types are available: market, limit, stop, as well as advanced options (Post Only, FOK, IOC) for those who want precise control over their execution. For beginners, the "Buy Crypto" tab allows for a simple euro purchase without going through the order book.

A small detail that will resonate with many: you can connect your OKX account to TradingView and trade directly from your charts.

After several sessions on it, what stands out is the depth of the order book on the major pairs: orders fill without noticeable slippage, even at decent sizes. On the more obscure pairs, as everywhere, you need to check the volume before entering.

X-Perps in Detail

I explained above why X-Perps are a game changer; here are their technical specs:

  • Leverage up to 10x, on crypto as well as other assets.
  • Multi-asset margin: you can use your EUR, USD, BTC, ETH, SOL, or stablecoins (USDC, USDG) directly as collateral, with no prior conversion.
  • Unified account: spot and derivatives positions coexist in the same account, with real-time margin calculation.
  • 24/7 trading, including on traditional assets.

In the app, the Futures tab can be filtered by category (All, New, Stocks, Commodities…):

  • Crypto: BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, DOGE, HYPE, ZEC, and others.
  • Stocks: Nvidia, Tesla, Alphabet, Intel, Micron, Marvell, Sandisk, plus ETFs like QQQ (Nasdaq 100) and the Roundhill Memory ETF.
  • Commodities: gold (XAU), silver (XAG), WTI (CL) and Brent (BZ) crude oil.

All of these contracts carry the X-Perp badge and the "UM" suffix in the app, settle in USDC, USD, or USDG (you choose your settlement currency in the settings), and display their funding rate live. Their expiry is far off (on the order of 5 years), but thanks to funding they behave day-to-day like true perpetuals. When traditional markets are closed, the index price stays anchored to the last known closing price.

Convert: Instant Conversion

OKX has a built-in Convert feature that lets you switch from one asset to another instantly, with no order book, no trading fees, and no slippage. For quickly adjusting an allocation, converting token dust, or locking a position into a stablecoin, it's the everyday tool.

Deposits and Withdrawals: Euros and Crypto

On the euro side, OKX Europe supports four deposit channels (Deposit > Fiat tab):

  • Easy Transfer: free. Instant or up to 2 business days.
  • SEPA transfer: free. Instant or up to 2 business days. The go-to method for serious amounts.
  • Visa/Mastercard: instant, 1.99% fee.
  • PayPal: instant, 1.99% fee.

Euro withdrawals are made via SEPA to your bank account, which must be in your name.

On the crypto side, if you already hold assets elsewhere (another exchange, a wallet, a cold wallet), you can bring them over directly without going through euros first, via Deposit > Crypto:

  • you choose the asset to deposit (BTC, ETH, USDC, SOL…);
  • OKX generates a deposit address specific to that asset, with a QR code;
  • crucial point: you choose the network (Bitcoin, Ethereum ERC-20, Solana, Tron TRC-20…). The network selected on OKX must match exactly the one used to send the funds;
  • some deposits require a memo or tag (XRP, TON…): if the field appears, it's mandatory — forgetting it can cause you to lose the funds.

The deposit is credited after a certain number of confirmations, ranging from a few seconds (Solana) to around thirty minutes (Bitcoin during busy periods).

The single most important habit in this whole guide: always double-check the network before confirming a send. Sending an asset on the wrong network is the most classic and costly mistake in crypto, and it's usually irreversible. For a first transfer of a large amount, always send a small test amount first.

OKX Earn: Putting Your Crypto to Work

The Earn section ("Grow" menu) lets you generate daily rewards on more than 20 tokens, with three main products for Europeans:

  • Margin Rewards: rewards on your deposited assets. As I'm writing this, rates are running around 6% APR on ETH (with bonus), 3% on BTC, and 1% on SOL.
  • BTC Yield+: a yield product dedicated to Bitcoin.
  • On-chain Earn: access to staking and on-chain protocols directly from the platform.

There's also a lending section, which lets you borrow against your collateral. The approach is deliberately conservative: no wild APYs like on certain offshore platforms, but well-defined products with documented mechanics. Rates change regularly, so check what's displayed at the moment you sign up.

Web3: Non-Custodial Wallet and DeFi

This is one of the big strengths of the OKX ecosystem, and it remains accessible to Europeans: the OKX Wallet, a built-in non-custodial wallet.

The fundamental difference from your exchange account: with the wallet, you hold the private keys. No third party, including OKX, can access these funds without your authorization. It's the direct application of "not your keys, not your coins," with a polished experience built right into the app — the same principle as a MetaMask wallet you host yourself.

The wallet gives you access to dozens of blockchains and their dApps, to OKX's DEX aggregator (which compares cross-chain prices for your on-chain swaps), and to managing your NFTs and DeFi positions.

OKX Card and OKX Pay: Spending Your Crypto

Launched in the EEA in early 2026, the OKX card is a virtual Mastercard linked to your OKX Pay balance. You fund it with stablecoins, and at the moment of payment the conversion to euros happens automatically via the Mastercard network. The merchant receives a standard euro payment.

  • No issuance fee, no monthly fee, no annual fee. No transaction fee, no exchange fee: only a 0.1% market spread applies to the conversion. Compare that to the 1.5–3% a bank takes on foreign currency payments.
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay compatible from activation, anywhere Mastercard is accepted.
  • Cashback of up to 10% in USDG on eligible purchases funded in USDG. One detail to watch: only payments in USDG generate cashback, not USDC ones. That's why I recommend keeping your Pay balance funded in USDG.
  • Pay Boost pays up to 3.5% APY on the USDG sitting in your Pay balance.

OKX Pay is the layer underneath: a stablecoin payment account that also allows transfers between users, operating under a payment institution license and in compliance with MiCA and the PSD2 directive.

A common-sense tip: your OKX Pay balance isn't a bank account covered by deposit guarantees. Keep what you plan to spend on it, not your savings.

Bots, Copy Trading, and AI Agents

Unlike other European versions that have sacrificed these features, OKX Europe keeps all its automation tools:

  • Trading bots: the Spot Grid (buy low, sell high within a range, ideal for ranging markets), Spot DCA (scheduled accumulation), Iceberg (splitting a large order so it doesn't move the market), and TWAP (spreading execution over time).
  • Copy Trading: you can copy other users' bots, with their performance on display (PnL, execution time, max 7-day drawdown).
  • Agent Trade Kit: the most intriguing new addition — building AI agents to automate a strategy. This is clearly the direction the industry is heading, and OKX is among the first to offer it within a regulated framework. I cover it regularly in the AI & trading section.
  • Request for Quote (RFQ): multi-leg strategies and block trades, geared toward large volumes.
  • Demo trading mode: test the platform and your strategies with virtual money, under real conditions. If you're just starting out on X-Perps, begin here.

As always with automation: a bot executes a strategy, it doesn't make it profitable. A Grid bot in a market that breaks out of its range loses money, and copying a trader without understanding their risk management amounts to handing over your capital blind. Use these tools as execution tools, not as cash machines — your trading plan is still the foundation.

What OKX Europe Doesn't Offer

  • Leverage is capped at 10x on derivatives, versus 100x and above on the global version.
  • The token catalog is narrower (~405 tokens), since every asset has to meet MiCA requirements. The most exotic memecoins and micro-caps aren't always available.
  • Classic crypto options and some advanced derivative products from the global version aren't available: the European derivatives offering runs through X-Perps.
  • Stablecoins that don't meet MiCA requirements have been removed from European pairs in favor of USDC, USDG, and EUR. USDT has reduced status in Europe, as on all regulated platforms.

Using OKX from Europe, Step by Step

1. Create the Account

Sign-up happens on the website or through the mobile app (iOS/Android). By signing up from Europe, your account is automatically attached to OKX Europe Limited, the MiCA-regulated entity. No separate site, no special steps.

👉 Open my OKX account with the community perks

2. KYC and Account Security

Identity verification is mandatory before you can deposit and trade — a MiCA requirement, not an OKX choice: ID card or passport, dynamic selfie, proof of address in some cases. Verification usually takes a few minutes.

Once KYC is validated, secure your account right away. My recommendations, in order:

  1. 2FA through an authenticator app (not SMS-only 2FA);
  2. Passkey if your device supports it — it's the next level up;
  3. Anti-phishing code in emails;
  4. Withdrawal address whitelist, so no withdrawal can go to an unknown address;
  5. Dedicated password, unique, stored in a password manager.

Regulated framework or not, a poorly secured account is still an account at risk.

3. Understanding the App: Simple and Exchange Modes

At the top of the home screen, a toggle switches between two modes. Simple mode is the streamlined view, designed for beginners: a list of cryptos, big Deposit and Trade buttons, direct euro purchases. Exchange mode is the full view: Watchlist, Popular, New, and X-Perp tabs, detailed EUR pairs, announcements, and quick access shortcuts.

4. Deposit Euros

Head to Deposit > Fiat, EUR balance:

  • Easy Transfer or SEPA transfer (free): you get the bank details and send your euros. Arrival instant to 2 business days. The method to favor for any serious amount.
  • Visa/Mastercard (1.99%): instant, best kept for small amounts.
  • PayPal (1.99%): same use cases as the card.

The first transfer also links your bank account to your OKX account, which smooths out withdrawals afterward.

5. Buy Crypto on the Spot Market

Two ways to buy: express buy through the "Buy Crypto" tab (simple and fast), or the spot market with an order book — you pick your pair, your order type (market for immediate execution, limit to set your price), and you keep full control.

A reminder that's worth real money: a limit order filled as maker costs you almost half as much in fees as a market order as taker. On volume — and even more so in scalping — that matters enormously.

6. Activate X-Perps (Derivatives)

  1. In the Trade menu, click Unlock X-Perps (that's literally the name of the option, with the note "Access up to ×10 leverage");
  2. pass the suitability test: a questionnaire that checks your understanding of leverage, liquidations, and margin mechanics;
  3. once approved, your derivatives account is active, with multi-asset margin and the unified account.

If you've never traded derivatives before, demo mode is there for that: practice with virtual money before risking a single real euro.

And even if you only plan to trade spot, opening this account has a direct benefit: your fee schedule drops from 0.20%/0.35% to 0.08%/0.10%.

7. Withdraw Euros to Your Bank Account

EUR withdrawals are made via SEPA to a bank account in your name. The timing depends on your bank: generally allow 1 to 2 business days. For crypto withdrawals, the address whitelist adds a validation step — exactly the kind of friction you want to have on the day something goes wrong.

8. Use the OKX Card Day to Day

  1. Activate OKX Pay in the app;
  2. fund your Pay balance in USDG (via Convert or an external deposit) — only USDG payments generate cashback;
  3. request your virtual card from the Pay section;
  4. add it to Apple Pay or Google Pay, and you're good to go.

From there, you can pay anywhere Mastercard is accepted, and the cashback lands automatically in your Pay balance once the transaction settles.

9. Transaction History and Tax Reporting

OKX provides a complete, exportable transaction history, compatible with the market's major tax tools (Koinly, Blockpit…). Two points worth keeping in mind:

  • Since OKX Europe is a Malta-based entity, your account counts as a digital asset account held abroad: check your own country's reporting rules for foreign-held accounts, since many tax authorities require these to be declared separately.
  • Card payments made with OKX can count as taxable disposals under many tax regimes when you spend stablecoins bought using unrealized gains from other crypto — check how your own country treats this.

I'm not a tax advisor, but keep this principle in mind: everything is exportable, so you might as well keep things clean from the start — the same way you keep a trading journal.

The Complete Fee Schedules

Since October 2025, OKX has applied a fee schedule specific to EEA users. A reminder of the trick covered above: there are two spot fee schedules, depending on whether or not you've opened an X-Perps derivatives account. The schedules below apply to Group 1 (major pairs like BTC, ETH, SOL); Groups 2 and 3 have slightly higher VIP fees.

The real thing to remember is the comparison between the two schedules at the Normal tier: simply opening an X-Perps account drops your fees from 0.20%/0.35% to 0.08%/0.10%. Taker fees cut by 3.5x, with no volume requirement at all. For an active user, the difference quickly adds up to hundreds of euros a year.

Your VIP tier is calculated on your total assets or your 30-day trading volume (whichever is more favorable applies), with a daily re-evaluation, and an immediate one as soon as a deposit over 1,000 USD is made. You'll find your personal fee schedule under Assets > Fees.

On top of that, there's the funding rate, paid or received depending on your position's direction, just like on any perpetual.

Other Fees

  • EUR deposits: Easy Transfer and SEPA free of charge; Visa/Mastercard and PayPal at 1.99%.
  • Convert: no trading fees or slippage.
  • Crypto withdrawals: fixed fees depending on the asset and network (blockchain fees).
  • OKX card: no transaction or exchange fees, 0.1% conversion spread.

Also worth noting: a 24-hour withdrawal limit that starts at 10M USD at the regular tier and climbs up to 80M USD with VIP status. Suffice it to say that for the vast majority of users, this is never a concern.

Security, Transparency, and Customer Support

Proof of Reserves, Verifiable Every Month

OKX publishes a Proof of Reserves roughly once a month, verified using zk-STARK v2 cryptographic proofs. The principle: demonstrate that all user balances are fully backed by the platform's reserves.

And it's not tucked away in some corner of the site: the reports are accessible from your account, under Assets > Proof of Reserves (PoR), with the full history. You can verify for yourself that your account is included in the attestation. After FTX, this kind of mechanism has become standard practice among serious players.

Fund Segregation and MiCA Protections

Under MiCA, your assets are held in segregated accounts, separate from OKX's own funds. If the platform were to become insolvent, they can't be claimed by creditors. OKX is also legally liable for losses caused by its own operational failures, and a risk reserve fund exists as additional protection.

These are legal rights, not marketing promises. And if a dispute isn't resolved through the internal complaints process, the MFSA serves as the escalation point.

Account Security and Support

The platform offers the full modern arsenal: 2FA, passkeys, anti-phishing codes, withdrawal whitelisting, connected device management, and sub-accounts for separating strategies. The infrastructure claims 99.99% uptime, and OKX's track record during periods of high volatility is solid.

Support is available 24/7 via chat, with an extensive help center available in multiple languages. Each product (X-Perps, card, EEA fees) has its own dedicated pages with precise rules.

Frequently Asked Questions About OKX

Is OKX authorized in the EEA?

Yes. OKX operates through OKX Europe Limited, MiCA-licensed by the Maltese regulator (MFSA) since January 2025, with a European passport valid across the EEA.

What are OKX's real fees?

0.08% maker and 0.10% taker on spot if you've opened an X-Perps account, versus 0.20% and 0.35% without. On futures: 0.02% and 0.05%. SEPA transfers are free.

What's the maximum leverage on OKX in Europe?

x10. That's the European regulatory cap under MiFID II, the same at every regulated competitor.

Can you trade stocks on OKX?

Yes, via X-Perps: Nvidia, Tesla, Alphabet, Intel, and others, as well as gold, silver, and oil, available 24/7.

Do you need to declare your OKX account for tax purposes?

Likely, yes. Since the entity is Malta-based, your account may count as a foreign-held digital asset account under your country's rules. Gains are generally taxable under digital asset tax regimes — check the specific requirements where you live.

Are euro deposits free?

SEPA transfer is free both ways. Card payments and PayPal cost 1.99%.

Does OKX offer a payment card?

Yes, a virtual Mastercard backed by your OKX Pay balance, with no issuance fee, up to 10% cashback in USDG, and a 0.1% conversion spread.

To Sum Up

As I write this, OKX Europe is the most complete regulated offering on the European market. Where most platforms had to cut their offering down to fit within the MiCA framework, OKX made the opposite choice: stack up licenses to keep everything. Spot, regulated derivatives, Earn, Web3, bots, copy trading, a payment card — the full ecosystem, within a legal framework.

The real differentiator is X-Perps. Being able to trade leveraged crypto derivatives within a regulated framework was already rare. Being able to trade Nvidia, gold, or the Nasdaq 24/7 from the same account, with the same margin as your BTC positions, is unique in Europe today. Add the fee trick on top and you've got a platform that costs less while offering more.
